Wilmington’s annual free-to-the-public Cape Fear Shakespeare on the Green festival, in association with the City of Wilmington, is every weekend and weeknights beginning May 27th, and continues throughout the month of June.  This year’s festival celebrates 24 seasons of free outdoor Shakespearean theatre at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The Shakespeare Youth Company kicks off the season festival performing “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” directed by Cherri McKay Shakespeare’s first romantic comedy, featuring privileged youths with no real responsibility, living in a world where adults are on the parameter. It’s exuberant, impulsive and prankishly sophomoric. The perfect setting for a great family evening underneath the stars.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona performances are staged Fri Sat Sun May 27, 28, 29 Mon -Wed June 6-8 and Mon-Thu June 13-16 8:00 pm

Our regular festival show Twelfth Night directed by Adrian Monte takes the stage Saturday June 6, “Twelfth Night,” Shakespeare’s most perfect comedy, devises a romantic plot around separated twins, misplaced passions, and mistaken identity. Juxtaposed to it is the satirical story of a self-deluded steward who dreams of becoming a count, only to receive his comeuppance at the hands of the merrymakers he wishes to suppress. Put all these people together and you have an irresistible, poignant symphony of miscommunication, misconception and non-comprehension, all fueled by romantic desire.

Twelfth Night performances are staged each weekend at 8:00 p.m. beginning Saturday, June 4 through Sunday, June 26; with an additional show Thursday June 23, to benefit Actor Appreciation Night.
